Help my weak and feeble eyes to see a glimpse of who You called me to be

“…Help my weak and feeble eyes to see a glimpse of who You called me to be…”

As a boy, there were times when I lost my temper and my mother would tell me ‘that’s the Bristol coming out in you’, the ‘Bristol’ being the fiery temperament of the red-haired Bristol clan of my family. In other words, she was saying ‘that’s just the way you are.’ While I understand that family traits can be passed down from one generation to the next, I came to the place after the Lord delivered me where I decided that the angry heart I thought was ‘me’ was not a part of who I was now as a new creation. Rather than walk around thinking of myself as an angry man, I determined that when anger rose up in me that I would remind myself that ‘this is not who I am! Who I am is a man of peace who is willing to lay down his rights’. As I sought to put off the old and put on the new, the angry responses began to give way to who God truly called me to be.
As you go about the day, allow the Holy Spirit to show you areas of your identity you may have never seen from His point of view. Quickly begin to put off the old way of thinking of yourself and put on the new!
…if anyone is in Christ, {he is} a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 NASB
