Renewal indicates the start of a new year or season. We can make all the resolutions we want, but we can't change ourselves. But when we willingly offer our lives to God, He will change us. Romans 12:2 says, "...be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Revival washes over us when, as believers, we experience a renewed and refreshing work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, and gain a greater awareness of our need for Christ. The songs compiled here remind us of our daily need for confession and repentance as we seek revival in our hearts. More than just chord sheets, vocal arrangements, or multitracks, these songs usher in an atmosphere of praise for worship teams to help engage congregations of all sizes.
As we read through the founding of the church and disciples' ministries on earth, we can see that times were hard. Facing persecution, ridicule, and even death, the disciples cling to the hope of Jesus and his return to help them overcome these difficult times. We can also have this hope through our difficulties. Jesus gives his Holy Spirit to those who believe and follow him. We can have strength to overcome trials knowing that God is with us. We also know that one day Jesus will return and those who follow him will be united with him. These songs and hymns show how we can persevere in difficulty by focusing on the hope we have in Jesus and that one day he will return.
Compassion is another powerful characteristic of God. Every time Jesus was moved with compassion, something powerful happened. “And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them . . .” (Matthew 14:14) When facing a tough situation, human nature is easily drawn to sympathy, but the reality is that sympathy is not always what is needed. Sympathy identifies with the problem or hurt, but it is not focused on the solution, helping you move forward. Compassion, along with God's grace, is a powerful force that activates His answers for your life. Download the chord charts or piano sheets for simplified or corporate worship gatherings.
Jesus teaches that we are the light to help us understand there are two parts to the mystery of the incarnation. There is the mystery of God becoming flesh in Jesus Christ—the Light coming into the world in human form, in flesh and blood. The 'epiphany' of Christ's birth is also remembered by the journey of The Magi to follow the star to where Christ was born.
