About
When Matthew West invited people to share their stories for inspiration, he had no idea it would revolutionize his music, ministry, and life. With over 10,000 stories from fans worldwide, he created the landmark album, "The Story of Your Life," giving people a voice and a chance to be heard. This journey continued with even greater momentum in his album "Into the Light."
West describes this experience as the most fulfilling part of his career, emphasizing the emotional connection and responsibility he feels towards the stories he shares through his music. Produced by Pete Kipley, "Into the Light" features 12 compelling songs that highlight West's storytelling prowess. As a two-time Grammy® nominee, West has released five studio albums with hits like “Strong Enough,” “The Motions,” and “You Are Everything.” He has also written songs recorded by notable artists such as Rascal Flatts, Michael W. Smith, and Casting Crowns.
His 2010 album, "The Story of Your Life," debuted at No. 3 on the Christian album chart and outsold his previous album by 20%. It also inspired a book and a church curriculum DVD series. Despite a busy touring schedule, West wrote the songs for "Into the Light" on the road, drawing inspiration from the faces and stories of his audiences across 43 cities.
West's dedication to storytelling is evident in songs like “Forgiveness,” inspired by Renee Napier, who forgave the drunk driver who killed her daughter, and “Into the Light,” based on a woman named Alice who escaped an abusive marriage. Other songs, like “Hello My Name Is” and “The Power of Prayer,” showcase his ability to blend poignant narratives with engaging melodies.
“Moved by Mercy” features Caitlin Evanson, and “Do Something” tells the story of a college student who started an orphanage in Uganda. West has collected over 20,000 stories and started a nonprofit organization, Population We, to provide support and resources to those in need.
Matthew West's music gives a voice to those brave enough to share their stories, using them as a vehicle to inspire and improve the lives of others. His album "Into the Light" encourages listeners to bring their struggles into the light, finding courage and freedom in shared experiences.

Listening to a live worship album makes you feel like you are right in the room, surrounded by hundreds of other worshippers. Usually, the arrangement and vocals are less polished, but that comes as an easy trade for capturing the authentic worship experience. When we chart these arrangements, they serve as a great resource to demonstrate how to lead these songs in your own live worship setting. Playing for live worship is not the same as playing in the studio. This list is full of our favorite live worship arrangements.
