In Christ Alone (Devotional)

The Cornerstone of Our Faith
Scripture: “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” — 1 Corinthians 3:11

The Foundation of Hope
The opening verse of In Christ Alone declares that Jesus is our hope, light, strength, and song. He is our firm foundation, the solid ground that holds steady through the fiercest trials. When storms of life rage and uncertainty surrounds us, we can confidently stand in the love of Christ — a love that secures us beyond our circumstances.
When fears threaten to overwhelm, we remember that in Jesus, strivings cease. We don’t have to struggle to earn our way to God. Instead, we rest in the assurance that He is our Comforter and All in All.
Where do you turn when life shakes your foundation? Are you standing on the solid ground of Christ or the shifting sands of the world?
The Power of the Cross
The second verse shifts our focus to the sacrificial love of Jesus. The Son of God humbled Himself, taking on human flesh, experiencing suffering, and bearing the weight of our sin. His death was not a tragedy but a triumph — the moment when God’s wrath was satisfied, and the penalty for sin was paid in full.
Paul writes in Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This love is not conditional. It is freely given. Because of Christ’s death, we do not have to live in the shame of our past. Instead, we live in the freedom of His sacrifice.
Have you accepted the fullness of Christ’s forgiveness, or are you still carrying the weight of sin that He has already paid for?
Victory in the Resurrection
Jesus didn’t stay in the grave. The third verse proclaims the hope of the resurrection — the moment when darkness was shattered, and death lost its sting. Because He rose again, we can stand in victory, knowing that sin no longer has a grip on us.
Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15:55, “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The resurrection of Jesus means that we are no longer bound by sin, shame, or fear. We belong to Him, bought with the precious blood of Christ.
Are you walking in the victory of Christ’s resurrection, or are you living as if you are still bound by sin and death?
Secure in His Hands
The final verse is a declaration of eternal security. From the moment of our first breath to our final moment on earth, Jesus holds our destiny. Nothing — no power of hell, no scheme of man — can remove us from His hand.
Jesus Himself promises in John 10:28, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” What an incredible assurance! Whether in life or death, we are safe in Christ’s hands.
Do you live in the confidence that you are fully secure in Christ, or do you struggle with fear and doubt about your future?
A Call to Stand
The song closes with a bold statement: “Here in the power of Christ, I’ll stand.” This is not just a lyric — it’s a declaration of faith. No matter what comes, we choose to stand firm in Christ.
Today, take a moment to reflect: What does it mean for you to stand in the power of Christ? How can you live in the confidence of His victory?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for being my cornerstone. In You alone, my hope is found. Help me to stand firm in Your love, resting in the power of Your sacrifice and victory over death. May I live each day with confidence, knowing that I am secure in You. Amen.
