Scripture:
“He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay.” — Matthew 28:6 (NIV)

The morning after Jesus’ crucifixion must have been one of unbearable grief for His disciples. The man they had followed, their Rabbi and Messiah, was gone. The weight of loss, coupled with fear of persecution, left them hiding behind locked doors, their hearts heavy with sorrow and uncertainty.

The song He’s Alive beautifully captures Peter’s experience in those dark hours. His deep shame from denying Christ, his confusion over Mary’s news, and his slow journey from doubt to belief reflect the internal struggles we all face at times.

From Despair to Hope

Peter’s first response was one of skepticism. After all, he had witnessed the crucifixion with his own eyes. He had seen Jesus breathe His last. The weight of reality seemed immovable. Like Peter, we too can find ourselves locked in doubt when circumstances appear impossible. We may even question whether hope can break through our pain.

Yet, hope was already at work. The empty tomb signified more than an absence; it proclaimed the victory of life over death, of redemption over sin. When Peter finally encountered Jesus face to face, everything changed. In the presence of the risen Christ, shame melted into forgiveness, fear transformed into peace, and sorrow turned to joy.

He’s Alive — And So Are We

When we hear the triumphant cry, He’s alive!, it’s not just a declaration about Jesus; it’s an invitation for us. Because Christ is alive, we are forgiven. Because He lives, we are redeemed. Because the grave could not hold Him, sin and death no longer have the final word over us.

Peter’s story is our story. Like him, we may have moments of failure, doubt, and despair. But Jesus’ resurrection is the assurance that grace abounds, and nothing can separate us from His love. The doors we have bolted in fear, He opens with peace. The shame we carry, He replaces with restoration. The doubts we wrestle with, He answers with His presence.

As you listen to this powerful song, let it remind you that Jesus is not just a figure of the past. He stands before you today, arms open wide, offering forgiveness, hope, and new life. He is alive — and because of Him, so are we.

Reflection Questions:

  1. In what areas of your life have you experienced doubt or fear like Peter?
  2. How does the truth of Christ’s resurrection bring you hope today?
  3. What does it mean to you personally that because Jesus is alive, you are forgiven?

Prayer:

Jesus, thank You for the cross and for the empty tomb. Thank You that, like Peter, I don’t have to stay in my fear or shame. You are alive, and because of You, I am free. Help me to live in the joy of Your resurrection, trusting that Your love and grace are greater than my failures. I rejoice today because You are alive! Amen.
