Scripture:
“But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” — Galatians 6:14 (ESV)

Devotional

In a world that celebrates personal achievement, self-reliance, and success, the words of All My Boast Is In Jesus invite us to a different perspective — one that shifts our focus from what we can accomplish to what Christ has already accomplished for us.

The opening verse reminds us of the wonder of the Gospel — that Jesus, in His righteousness and goodness, would take our place on the cross. What could we possibly bring before God that would earn His favor? Our merit is nothing compared to His, and yet He freely offers His grace. “O foolish pride, be crucified, the work is finished.” The cross has done what we could never do for ourselves: it has secured our salvation.

Paul echoes this in Galatians 6:14, proclaiming that his only boast is in the cross of Christ. Why? Because the cross dismantles pride, reminding us that salvation is not based on our works, but on His finished work. The chorus of this song declares that our hope and glory are in Jesus alone. When we live in this truth, we no longer need to strive for significance through worldly achievements. Instead, we are freed to rest in the sufficiency of Christ.

Verse 2 expresses the overwhelming gratitude of a forgiven life: “Now fully forgiven, my life is filled with graces undeserved.” Have you ever been overwhelmed by the weight of God’s mercy? His grace doesn’t just cleanse us; it fills us, transforms us, and compels us to praise. “Rise up, my soul and bless the Lord, who else is worthy?”

When we come to Bridge 1, the anthem is clear: “I will boast in nothing less than the love of Christ my Lord.” This is a direct challenge to the human heart that longs to prove its worth through success, strength, or wealth. Yet, Verse 3 powerfully refocuses our priorities: “I boast not in riches, in strength or might, but in the grace of God.” To follow Christ is to surrender the world’s measures of greatness and embrace a life that finds its greatest joy in Him — whether in plenty or in want.

The final chorus proclaims the freedom found in Christ: “Now I stand in His freedom, ransomed, clean in His sight.” This is the victory of the Gospel. We are no longer bound by shame or the need to prove ourselves, because our identity is found in Jesus. To boast in Christ is to live unashamedly in His love, knowing that the cross has secured our redemption once and for all.

Reflection Questions

  1. In what areas of your life are you tempted to find your worth outside of Christ?
  2. How does knowing that your “boast” is in Jesus change the way you see success or failure?
  3. Take a moment to reflect on God’s grace. How can you cultivate a deeper gratitude for what Christ has done for you?

Prayer

Father, thank You for the gift of Jesus. Forgive me when I seek to boast in my own achievements instead of resting in Your finished work. Teach me to find my identity in Christ alone, to live in the freedom of Your grace, and to glorify You in all I do. May my heart forever proclaim: my boast is in Jesus. In His name, Amen.
