In Luke 2 when the angel appeared to the shepherds to tell them about the birth of Jesus, the first words the angel said were 'Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news'.

A sacrificial offering, a suffering servant. God offered up His only son, so that He may not be served but that He would serve others. The lamb, sinless and pure, was laid upon the cross to invite the righteous back to the table of the Lord. This sacrifice is what evokes our victory over death.
