Like a desert thirsts for water

“…Like a desert thirsts for water…”

In all of our lives we will have times where we feel we cannot sense God’s presence or feel Him near us. Sometimes I get so busy that I saturate myself with too many things to do at once. If I do not take time to refresh myself I will most likely become burned out. But never fear, sometimes burning out, like being in a desert, is a good thing. When we get to that place where we have to throw our hands up in the air and say ‘I give up!’ then we have reached the place where we, once again, get to experience God’s grace. Think of it like this: if we never experienced the dry times, the rain would not be precious to us. So it is with the Lord. When dry times come we get to experience the refreshing coolness of His rain in our lives…but only when we surrender to Him.

Spend time to day thinking about past times of dryness in your life and remember how good it felt to have that thirst finally quenched.
O God, You are my God;
I shall seek You earnestly;
My soul thirsts for You,
my flesh yearns for You,
In a dry and weary land
where there is no water.

Psalm 63:1 NASB
