Everything I hold so Dear Pales Whenever You are Near

Featuring Dennis Jernigan Posted on April 27, 2010

Whenever we are face with life and death circumstances it seems easier to delineate between what is important and what is not. A few years ago one of my daughters was involved in a traffic accident. Not knowing her condition, I raced toward the crash site at break-neck speed. My own life seem of little importance to me as I raced to her. Seeing them putting her into the ambulance momentarily sent my heart into shock. I left my keys in my truck in the middle of the road and jumped into the emergency vehicle with her. My own life and that truck were of little value to me. In that moment all I could think of was getting to my child. And then it hit me. That’s how Father thinks of me. He did whatever it took to get to me. In the same way that I placed little value on the ‘things’ surrounding my daughter’s safety, I am brought to rock-bottom reality whenever I think about how vital knowing Christ is to my own destiny and identity. If I can live my life to know Christ as if my life depended on it then I have found the key to abundant life…and everything else pales in comparison.

What are the things that overshadow your relationship with Christ that hinder the flow of life in you? Take time to, once again, reorder your priorities.

In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith, (being) more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 1 Peter 1:6-7 NASB
