I still remember when I first heard it back in the early 90's. I remember leading the song so many times, and having my heart soar! Dennis, please write songs like this :-)

I can't get enough of hearing this song and sending up praise to my Father. This has been a favorite of mine for a long time.

I do remember the days when evening rehearsals were the highlite of the week - Wednesday nights and sometimes Thursday nights and we'd even meet on Saturday mornings before big performances. Not anymore - as the groups have aged and people with young families are pulled in so many different directions, it's been increasingly challenging to find a rehearsal time that works for everyone. We've been rehearsing after worhip on Sunday mornings and before worship on the Sundays the different groups sing. I also prepare worship CD's and provide the music for people to rehearse at home. By increasing my expectation of their responsibility, it makes everyone's life a whole lot easier!

We are a church coming from a very traditional background so we we have a mixed culture of old and new thinking. We have youth and adults in our group with various levels of musicianship. We will need to add another rehearsal during the week to get better. Right now, we are more in what I would call "play along mode".

We are a blended church. By moving the vocal rehearsal to Sunday night and calling it a "choir" I actually got more people to join...crazy, but it works.

The sound person is there to set the levels (we have a digital board, so we can just program it in and then lock it all down) and the computer operator (to run the words on the screen) is usually there also. After surveying all my team members, it was the only night that worked for everybody.

However, because our band is spread out all over Chicagoland, we rehearse just on Sunday morning. I know, crazy. We want to change but, as of right now, most musicians serve more than once a month in different capacities and Sunday morning already consumes between six and eight hours from rehearsal start at 6:30 am, through the three sunday services, to the loading up of the last equipment on the trailer at 1:30 pm. So there is a high call on preparation. The team keeps each other accountable in loving ways. But honestly, everyone comes very prepared thanks to PraiseCharts and a lot of good communication!

I had to first of all find out from the musicians and singers where they stood with such a powerful ministry, determining whether they were sold out to serving the lord or just performing. This is where I had to step down for a while because I personally believe that worship through music is a very powerful weapon against darkness and I believe that everyones motive must be solidly grounded in God's truth. Yes I believe we must be sold out as servants, striving to achieve the most excellent level of art and music that God has equipped us to serve with. I've always felt that rehearsal must be a sacrifice of self. We should definitely have learned all of our individual parts at home whether off of a chart, recording or other. Give sufficient amount of time to do this, then it would be time to "rehearse" our learned perfected parts, and try to achieve the object of sounding like we are at the same skill level and degree of playing experience. A night for instrumental music is good followed by another night of vocal practice (with everyone knowing their parts ahead of time) and, leaving still another brief night for "dress rehearsal". I know, everyone is thinking I'm nuts and, who has the time but, it sure separates who is really committed from who just don't take such a privilege very seriously. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone, but serving the Lord should cost something and be totally sacrificial. If not, pride and egos will creep in and try to undermine and destroy what is supposed to be a fragrant offering to our coming King. I believe there is a lot to be said about the fall of satan and his identity as a worship leader maybe. He was the most beautful of all the angles and was adorned with jewels and instruments over and out of his whole body. Hmmm.
