    Handling Criticism

It's a reality. Everyone has an opinion. Everyone has their own set of expectations (some or most can never be met). Everyone has their own way of doing things. We wave the "thou-shalt-not" statements and laundry list preferences that fly like flags on the fourth of July.

    Setting The Standard

It's a common challenge. How high do you raise the bar? What is the bar? How do you introduce it? Most worship leaders I know and team members alike are faced with these and similar situations.

    Two Sides of the Coin

No matter what challenges arise, the senior pastor and the worship leader must guard their relationship. Frustration can easily grow when we entertain the temptation to put things ahead of people.

As with our physical bodies, we hope to have a healthy worship ministry operating in our churches. The following are some of my observations of signs of healthy worship ministries. They are not in any particular order.

    Crop Dusting

Those of us who lead worship, teach, or serve in our local churches have no room to boast when it comes to the spiritual process. God is the one who gives the growth. But that doesn't mean that we don't have a place in the process or are not important to it. God, in His sovereignty, uses us to do His work no matter if it is crop dusting or something all together different.

    The Leader

What’s the greatest challenge you face as a worship leader? You might think it’s deciding which songs to sing, getting along with your pastor, receiving feedback from church members, or leading a team of unorganized, independent musicians. Nope. Your greatest challenge is what you yourself bring to the platform each and every Sunday. Your heart.

    Mentoring: An Eternal Investment

One of the most important and God-given tasks of a worship leader is to train others to lead worship. I believe scripture gives us a mandate for training others for ministry. Paul wrote to the Ephesians, And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. (Ephesians 4:11-12)

    For Pete's Sake

The practice was over. His team stood around describing how much they’ve enjoyed and what they have learned from Wednesday night. So why this excitement after an ordinary rehearsal? How did they become so amped-up, that they couldn’t wait for the next Sunday service to arrive? Does this ever happen on a normal basis?

    The Leader

Bob Kauflin describes what God is looking for in a worship leader. This video introduces the first section of his book, Worship Matters. For more info, visit www.SovereignGraceMinistries.org.

    Situational Leadership

This is a term that can be applied generically to a style of leadership, but that also refers to a recognized, and useful, leadership model.  In simple terms, a situational leader is one who can adopt different leadership styles depending on the situation. In this article, discover your style of leadership that can effectively enhance the way you lead.
