Ryan is the founder of PraiseCharts, which began in 1998 when he served as a worship pastor in British Columbia, Canada. Since that time, PraiseCharts has experienced tremendous growth and depth, as Ryan leads a team of artists, writers, arrangers, producers who share his heart and desire to serve churches all around the world. Ryan is an active member of Victory Christian Centre in Surrey, BC.
I can hardly believe that nearly 10 years has gone by since the idea of PraiseCharts first popped into my head. I have often said that surviving with PraiseCharts has been a little bit like Moses standing in front of the Red Sea. The bottom line is, either God parts the waters, or I'm not going forward. All that to say, the fact that we are where we are is nothing short of a miracle.
The real miracle now is that PraiseCharts is built on the collaborative efforts of an amazing team. Everyone works in the virtual office of their own homes, and we are all glued together by our own passion, desire, and expertise in very specific areas. From arranging to customer service, we have a dream team.
Plans are under way to celebrate ten years by releasing a fun-filled Christmas album, featuring many of the classic, nostaligic Christmas songs that are played sung all over the world. You mean the "secular Santa songs"? Go ahead, ask what you were thinking.
It turns out that from our customer survey, Santa does not rate that high in song selections, but other favorites include "White Christmas", "Winter Wonderland" and "Silver Bells." I'm a Canadian, and the household name next to Nat King Cole is Michael Buble. His voice and style are amazing - one which I think we will follow after with this album.
Now don't get religious on me. I firmly believe that what makes a song "Christian" is not the lyrics - but person singing the song. God made the snow, so there is nothing wrong with dreaming of a white Christmas. Plus, I want to do this album to build a bridge to a whole new world of listeners and customers.
Why should we be trapped inside the walls of the church with PraiseCharts? Why not do some music that attracts others into our sphere, so that they can see the light. The light is not in the songs or in the lyrics. The light is in the hearts of our team. It is in the people. We are a fun-loving, celebrating people who live with passion and purpose. We are not locked in religion - we are set free in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
So, get ready for a celebration!

Yeah man! I'm with you on that - great idea and great thoughts on looking 'past the walls'.
I think it's always a great thing when followers of Christ are reaching OUT to the world instead of always asking the world to come to them. This sounds like relevant way of meeting people where they're at AND making some great music to boot! |
