Rick has led worship at different size churches since 1985. His specialty focuses on worship choirs and vocal teams. Rick has worked with acoustic driven bands and produced several Broadway style musicals; he is also a trumpet/drummer by trade. Rick currently is the Worship Pastor at The Fellowship of San Diego, www.fellowshipofsd.org. You may contact Rick at rick@fellowshipofsd.org
I know there are many Worship Pastors that use a choir occasionally in worship. I'm thinking if you are in a situation where the church is growing, you should have a pretty good sized choir ministry! If so, how do you stay 'In-Touch' with those within the choir? I have a pretty effective way to stay 'connected' to your vocals.

I use www.planningcenteronline. com to send weekly service orders/emails to the choir. It's really helped people stay connected.
We also have weekly choir rehearsals, and we really emphasize community/family in the group. I also blog...and we have several events to help folks stay connected with each other throughout the year--team building things. |

Hey Daniel,
Thanks for your email. I'm glad you shared what works for you in your ministry. The key is communication with those who serve as volunteers. They need to know they are important and vital to all we do in ministry! Blessings! Rick |

As a choir member and vocalist for over 20 years, I have found that community it that pivitol ingridient for any flourishing ministry. To stay connect is really hard when peoples schedules are busy and so diverse.
We have tried a few things: music ministry retreats at the beginning of each year, worship nights just for the music department and it leaders (a time to be led rather than to lead). We have started to do an appreciation dinner at the end of each year for the full music and creative producation ministry, a way to say "Thanks". But the main thing we do to stay connected is we pray for each others needs. We email those requests and take to KNOW about them each week. Since we are a family, we need to be cared for like one! |
