Dennis Jernigan
Dennis Jernigan wants you to know of a great opportunity for the next generation to meet and learn from several who have walked with Jesus in the ministry of worship for scores of years. This summer he will be hosting a conference in Dallas called Worship in the Kingdom. His own mentor, Jack Taylor (who helped usher in the modern worship movement in the 1970s and 80s) will be a big part of this conference. Oh What a Night!!! Houston Act of Life Benefit Concert
Thursday, my tech assistant Danny and I flew to Houston where we participated in a fundraiser concert for Act of Life. After meeting with founder Julie Stobbe, I am excited about all God is doing in the area of adoption. Julie’s passion rises from the fact that her own mother did not abort her when she was a 17 year old girl facing an unwanted pregnancy. Instead, she chose to save Julie’s life and loved her enough to place in her in a loving family where her needs could be met. Julie says that adoption ‘saves live and creates families’. What I also discovered is that only about 20% of the time adoption is presented in a proper fashion as an alternative to abortion…and this is in crisis pregnancy centers. The mission of Act of Life is as follows:
Our Mission
Act of Life dedicates itself to educating, encouraging and equipping those considering adoption, the professionals who serve them, and society in general.
What I appreciate is that Act of Life is simply an extension of God’s heart. After all, just who came up with the concept of adoption?
"...just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, in love He predestined us to adoption as sons and daughters through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will."
Ephesians 1: 4-5
Born from a passion to help people discover God's heart toward adoption, Act of Life promotes the benefits of adoption as a loving way to create families. They desire to see adoption recognized and presented as a parenting choice. As a network resource center they offer an objective view on adoption and all related services, focusing their efforts on raising adoption awareness by providing training and resources for: pregnancy centers, birth parents, adoptive parents, pastors, churches, counselors, and schools.
Act of Life has provided training for Focus on the Family, CareNet, crisis pregnancy centers all over Texas, and various other places. They are seeing high percentages of children being placed for adoption (and lives saved) whenever adoption is presented in an informed manner.
Hearing this heart for saving lives really made my ‘job’ so easy as I led worship. The night – though not well attended – was one of intimate worship and deep cleansing release of emotion. What a pleasure it was to lead out in this special night for this very special ministry.
For more info on Act of Life, go to www.actoflife.org. And would you do this for me? Consider helping them out with your financial gifts in the days to come. Saving one baby’s life and then finding a home for that child affects several generations for Christ. Think about it. I want to be a wise steward of all God has given me. I want to invest in what my Father is investing in. This is a worthy investment I think the Lord would be pleased with.
Blessings,
DJ
