Robert Weber, from his book, "Worship is a Verb," discussed how doctrine provides the believer the reasons of why we worship the God and celebrate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Resource, pg.22)
If we answer wrong to the question of who God is, our worship is in vain and our Christian experience is diluted. Knowing who God is – is more than a Sunday school lesson or memorizing Bible verses. Learning about God is to acquire intimacy with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Unfortunately, we as the Christian body have come further away from deepening our intimacy with the Almighty. We have lost our closeness with God and our awe of the Divine Presence is restricted to the timings on our watches.A.W. Tozer in his book, "The Knowledge of the Holy," prefaces the discussion about the diverted interest of the intimacy of knowing God. Tozer states, "Modern Christianity is simply not producing the kind of Christian who can appreciate or experience the life in the Spirit. The words, "Be Still, and know that I am God," mean next to nothing to the self-confident, bustling worshiper in this middle period of the twentieth century" (Tozer, pg. vii) In order to connect with God on a deeper level, we must know Him rightly.
