There is only one necessary thing in a believer's life, according to Jesus. 

Skill in leading worship includes how well we begin. Once into a set of songs, worship leaders hit a stride. Most of the time confidence will heighten after a song or two but how does one start strong?

As the worship leader, we have a great opportunity to bring life to any situation. We do so by reflecting the image of Jesus through loving and affirming words.  

Our charisma and/or talent is not enough.

It's no surprise to anyone that songs have direction to them. Some songs are vertical, meaning that God is addressed as “you”. There are also songs that are horizontal songs that may speak about God as “he” but are directed to another. The apostle Paul told the Colossians to “sing to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs” (Colossians 3:16)As worship leaders, we do well to notice the difference between these songs.

Many years ago, I came up with a charting system of key signatures and their corresponding accidentals to assist musicians.  It was a way to understand how to treat notes in certain keys. Take a look at the attached charts and see if you could benefit from them.

A performer cannot lead others in worship. Only a worshiper can!

God has uniquely designed us to worship in various ways.

Christians can act like atheists by ignoring the presence of God.

Songs of worship are most powerful when they describe God's character, position, and attributes.
