No. We are not talking about what model of an Ibanez guitar or what Zildjian cymbals to use in church. Instruments that we use in worship are more personal. Since worship is far more than just music, the instruments of worship necessarily include the members of our bodies.

The obvious body instrument of worship is our voice. Outside of those deaf and/or dumb, everyone can worship with their voice. Some might say, “but I can't sing”. Again, we need to remind ourselves that worship is more than song. We worship with the words we use. Communication that gives glory to God in all things is worship whether we are singing or not. God does not change. No matter what you or I face, God is still faithful, good, kind, and does not abandon those who call upon his name. A worshiper will keep God in view. He will be optimistic because God is his Father. Words of praise and worship will be on his tongue. Words of faith and hope are worship since they point to a glorious God.

Another instrument of worship that is a part of our bodies is our faces. Faces? Yes, that’s right. My wife will tell you that I have a very expressive face. At times that has gotten me into trouble. It seems that people can read me easily. The problem comes when the expressions are of fear and not faith. The argument that just smiling does not necessarily indicate worship is true.  However, it is also true that a worshiper will express joy and peace because of what is on the inside.

Along with our voices and faces, we express worship with our hands and with our feet. Again, remember worship is more than just music and so we worship God with more than clapping and dancing. Our hands and feet worship as we recognize who God is and trust him in all things. As an example, hands worship God when they lift the burden of another. Feet worship as they move in obedience to the wisdom of God.

The key to all these instruments working in tandem is to see who God is. There is no such thing as a part-time worshiper. It is hypocritical to claim to be a worshiper of God when our bodies play a song of fear or disbelief.

Paul the apostle wrote, “Oh the depth of the riches both of wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgements and unfathomable His ways! For who has know the mind of the Lord or who became His counsellor? Or who has first given to Him that it might be paid back to Him again? For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever Amen. Therefore, I urge you brethren, by the mercies of God , to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God which is your spiritual service of worship.”

It really doesn't matter how wonderful we play an instrument or sing a lyric if the instruments of our bodies are not in tune with their Creator. At the same time, nothing is more pleasing to God and inspiring to others than a Christian worshiping with the instruments of his body.
