Inside Out
Daniel and Jess Hammond say "Through our music, it is our prayer that people are drawn into a place of deep connection and encounter with God and to be changed from the inside out. Our greatest desire is that whoever comes to an event, or invites us to their church, will come away knowing that they have met with God, and possibly even forget who it was that let them there." Visit their website Inside Out.
Daniel and Jess Hammond say ""We were on the verge of moving into a new building and a new season in the life of our church. Daniel in particular, had been chewing over the biblical idea that songs were written for special occasions (Ps 30, Ps 92) and had felt compelled to attempt to write a song to be used for the opening of the new building. The church name is One Community church, so from there came a unified cry that God would take us forward as one people into the purposes he had for the future. A unified cry, not only for our own 'church' but for also for 'The Church' : 'one voice, one Hope, one song of freedom'."

Contemporary. Really familiar at times with the lyrics, but still good. Is anything truly original anymore? I think not. This is a strong song, but I'd like to hear some keyboard in the arrangement. It may be a bit guitar heavy for my taste.

Inspired and calming. "We rise as one people" is a good mantra for society at the moment.
I recall a song I once wrote which coined the phrase: '...The new gen-ado-ration' and this song of yours brings back to mind the thread of unification of spirit and purpose we should strive for in our communities. In our daily lives, whether at work, at school or as we go about our businesses we need to find common firm ground that will move us to travel in safe if not same directions. Roads go from A to B, but also from B to A and as we cross others in opposite directions we should recognise that though their journey may not be our journey today, we are on the same road and theirs may follow ours, or ours theirs on the return trip tomorrow. Artistically, in a performance context, I would like to hear the percussion less pervasive and the guitar more mellow, as shadows cast by the voices rather than flames blazing a trail for the lyrics to follow. Its all there but the arrangement and mix can be tweaked to advantage. You have a very evident talent which I believe would be much enhanced on reflection that David sang accompanied by a lyre harp. As Roger Hodgson of Supertramp fame observed when interpreting 'Give a Little Bit' and 'Dreamer' "There is a logic to sound whien it emmanates from the soul, for it permeates the universe with the rarest essence that is joy itself." (hence the Logical Song) (www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLR5rU4GoqY & www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJRfEU2m8i8): If you both, Daniel and Jess, could get to hear Roger at work it would assuredly raise your game to the next level. May 25, 2009 ~ Roger will be headlining the Acoustic Festival of Britain 2009, held at the Catton Hall Park, Derbyshire/Staffordshire Border. Maybe an angel reading this will supply tickets to them? Details of tickets on www.rogerhodgson.com. Best wishes, Tim Clarke - former Production Co-ordinator and assistant to Chip Monk and Russell Pope (sound engineer) on Crime of the Century and Breakfast in America tours. |

I think there are so many songs being written "for the Church", that the congregations can't actually sing! This is NOT one of those. Yes, it's simple and inviting, as Brenton said. The lyrics are true and reflect a pure heart - maybe not in the most trendy way, but that's hardly the point. The sound is still fresh and relevant. I think in the hands of a live band, with the breath of the Holy Spirit, this would be one of those songs that a congregation would LOVE singing. Great work Jess and Dan!

Loved it! The chorus is easy to sing along with. Catchy melody. The alternating/blending of male and female vocals sounded great. Loved the chiming harmonics on the guitar also.
