It's been years since Michael W. Smith released his Worship CD projects. But his passion for worship hasn't diminished, only has it increased to produce this long awaited album. If you have enjoyed the last albums, you will certainly love this one as well.
What separated his other projects from the worship CD's was the presentation.
The live recordings tend to move the soul more than a studio release. As I heard A New Hallelujah, I was moved by the progressive energy of the congregation and instruments. This live recorded album was my favorite from all of MWS's previous projects.
Michael arranged most songs on the album. This CD features more original songs rather than standard worship tunes, although there are four familiars. You may be glad to see Michael's rendition of HIllsong's Mighty To Save, Delirious' "Majesty," Chris Tomlin's "Amazing
Grace (My Chains are Gone)," and the classic hymn, "I Surrender All." For your worship team, each rendition may give you a few ideas to try musically that can be fun for your worship. The main instruments of the recording feature, power guitars, keyboards, bass, drums and a worship choir. A few auxiliary instruments and strings appear in a few other selections to add variety. Most of the songs range from medium to medium-fast pop grooves along with slow and intimate ballads.
Michael includes a few special guests on his project including Coalo Zamorano on "I Surrender All" that includes English and
Spanish accompanied by a violin passage. Israel Houghton co-arranged "Help is on the Way," as they both sing on the track. The African's Children Choir sings with Michael on "A New
Hallelujah" and "When I Think of You," giving a West-African groove style.
His recent new song "Grace," is a sweet piano led prayer-song followed by the choir. You may remember this song from his previous project.
I fell in love with all the songs from this recording as it led me into worship. If you enjoyed Michael's previous worship albums, you'll love A New Hallelujah.
