If you attempted to change the world, where would you start? What would you do? What would you need? Whose help would you get? What money, materials and other resources would you need?

When Scott Rigsby started training for the Kona Ironman triathlon, he didn’t know he wanted to change the world. In the process of swimming, biking, and running the Super Bowl of triathlons, Scott achieved the unthinkable and discovered he really did want to change the world.

He was an 18 year old kid riding in the back of a pickup truck on a hot summer day in rural Georgia. Traveling home with some friends after a hard day of landscaping work, their truck was suddenly hit by a passing 18- wheeler throwing him underneath their 3-ton attached trailer and dragging him over 300 feet. But that was just the beginning. Following the horrific accident, he had his right leg amputated below the knee. 10 years of prescription medication and 26 surgeries later, he gave up as a professional patient and had his left leg removed below the knee.

On October 13, 2007, after enduring the elements for 16 hours and 43 minutes, Scott Rigsby became the first double amputee in the world to finish an Ironman distance triathlon with prosthetics at the 140.6-mile World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. 

Despite the physical limitations of partially amputated legs (and the body of a linebacker), Scott not only overcame the physical challenges of the world’s most grueling endurance race, he overcame emotional, mental and spiritual tests as well. Scott’s story is an amazing inspiration of what one man can do with the strength of God in him.
