The church needs its poets—people who somehow congregationally, biblically and relevantly translate all that’s happening around them into words for the church to sing. It’s a powerful thing when songwriters rise up to help the people of God to voice their response to Him. (Matt Redman)

Songwriting involves an array of inspiration, crafting and guidance.
As followers of God, we experience the power and presence of Christ as
he writes His words through us for His pleasure and for the ministry of
the Church. Jennie Riddle shows us how she emphasizes the appropriate usage of Scripture
as songwriters, specifically highlighting four Biblical points
concerning the Bride.

Worship is not music, but music can be worship. God must love music, because the Bible says there’s a lot of it in heaven and invites us to come before His presence with singing (Psalm 100:2.) If we use music as an expression of our love to the Lord, He is pleased, and we’re refreshed. God made us that way. Music feeds the soul as food feeds the body. Combining the power of the Word, the Holy Spirit and music is like a three-fold cord that is not easily broken.

When people refer to me these days, it is often in the context of
‘you’re the guy who wrote that song we sing in our church’. While this
may be true on the surface, I do not think of myself as being a song
writer. I know. It sounds crazy coming from a guy who has written
several thousand songs! A much better moniker for me – one that better
describes who I am – is that of song receiver. How did I get to that
place of self-identity? What does it mean to be a song receiver?

Jennie Riddle shares how there
is no sweeter voice on the earth than the voice of the Bride. There is a
thrill each time the stage quiets down long enough to hear Her. "If I
rouse at the sound of Her song, how much more does my Beloved anticipate His
name on Her lips?" - JR.

Paul Baloche asks the question: What are God Songs? God Songs are songs sung to God, for God and about God. We sing because God sings, and we are made in His image. God sings? Yes! Zephaniah 3:17(NKJV) says, “The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save…He will rejoice over you with singing.” That’s the ultimate God song! God singing over us. If we could hear such a song we would fall down in awe.
