Australian Darlene Zschech is acclaimed all over the world as a singer, songwriter, worship leader and speaker, most notably for spearheading the music that comes from Hillsong Church. Although she has achieved numerous gold albums and her songs are sung in many nations of the world, her success is not the result of pursuing stardom and fame—it stands as a testimony to her life's passion to serve God and people with all her heart.
As a songwriter, Darlene is perhaps most famous for the chorus "Shout to the Lord," a song that is sung by an estimated 25 to 30 million churchgoers every week and has been covered by at least twenty other artists. This song is the title track for the first live album co-produced with Integrity Music, featuring Darlene as a prominent female worship leader. Shout to the Lord was nominated as Album of the Year for the 1997 Dove Awards and was nominated as Song of the Year for the 1998 Dove Awards. In 2000 Darlene received a Dove Award nomination for Songwriter of the Year.
In addition to "Shout to the Lord," Darlene has written over seventy songs that have been published by Hillsong Music Australia alone. She has also written three books on her passion, which include Extravagant Worship and her latest release, The Kiss of Heaven, with the Worship Leadership series becoming available soon.
In 2005 Darlene released a new solo album Change Your World, which features a new arrangement of Michael W. Smith's worship song "Agnus Dei," as well as a soon to be classic hymn, "Call Upon His Name." A new project, continuing to feature the theme of worship and justice is in production now.
Darlene has a great heart for helping hurting people, and she has recognized that her public platform gives her the opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of others. She is an ambassador for the work of Compassion International, and is committed wholeheartedly to relieving human suffering in any possible way.
It was a missions trip to Central Africa in 2004 that prompted Mark and Darlene to initiate Hope: Rwanda, a global endeavor designed to bring hope to a nation seemingly forgotten since the horrific genocide of 1994. The 100 Days of Hope (April 6 – July 15, 2006) project was strategically coordinated to cover the same 100 days that saw approximately 1 million people viciously slaughtered. Hope Rwanda continues to bring hope and healing to Rwanda… and a new ‘HOPE’ has spread into Cambodia, and the HOPE team are gearing up for many future endeavours. Darlene and Mark reside in Sydney with their three daughters, Amy, Chloe and Zoe. While she travels extensively and has had the honor of ministering at many prestigious events around the world, Darlene’s highest prize is her role as wife and mother. She loves being at home and being part of the worship team in her local church. As she says, "First and foremost I am a worshipper, and I pray that my life is given to serve the lives of others.
What And Who Are You Desiring As You Worship?

What and who are you desiring as you worship? Whether what we do actually IS worship is up to us.. for it is about the heart, its agenda and passions.

Psalm 46 Today's NIV Version For the director of music. Of the sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. A song. 1.God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. 2.Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3.though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. 4.There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place More
Legacy
Darlene Zschech | April 20, 2010 | Categories: Blogs | Tags: The Great Generational Transition, Worship Team, Leadership
And so the legacy of the undone begins in your bloodline... My own grandparents are devoted, passionate Christians, who in their late nineties are still dreaming, still living independently, still driving (aaahhhhh!!) and still encour- aging all their kids and grandkids and great grandkids in the ways of God. They stand on the doors in their home church each weekend and help look after the ‘old people’, they still send us all gifts at More
The Encouragement of Generosity
Darlene Zschech | March 13, 2010 | Categories: Blogs | Tags: The Great Generational Transition, Worship Team, Relationships, Worship Life
Generosity is also another stance you should adopt as again, the encouragement received from a simple act of generosity is far-reaching and definitely stirs greatness in a spiritual realm. I was recently admiring one of the young musician’s new guitar, it was incredible, and very expensive I might add. He was treating it like it was his own child, and it obviously meant a lot to him. I made a comment to him that he must have worked and saved More
Practical Encouragement
Darlene Zschech | March 13, 2010 | Categories: Blogs | Tags: The Great Generational Transition, Worship Team, Worship Life, Relationships
There are so many great, small but significant things you can do practically to encourage others. Just a simple thing like saying, ‘that was wonderful! well done!’ can take that moment of ‘I hope this was OK’ and turn it around to breathe a quiet assurance in the hearer’s heart. In my specific area of training up new leaders of worship or if there is a leader feeling particularly vulnerable at a certain time - just a More
Empowering Others is the Key!
Darlene Zschech | March 13, 2010 | Categories: Blogs | Tags: The Great Generational Transition, Worship Team, Worship Life
Empowering others is the key here. And once you start to share the workload AND the responsibility, AND the credit, well, you light a fire deep on the inside of others, giving them experience and helping them to work out what on earth it is they are even good at. Encouragement is a truly powerful force and when it is done sincerely and often, the creative dynamic within the act of encouraging someone over a lifetime has the ability to see the seemingly More
To Be Valued and Completely Valuable
Darlene Zschech | March 13, 2010 | Categories: Blogs | Tags: The Great Generational Transition, Worship Life, Worship Team
EVERY SINGLE PERSON NEEDS TO KNOW THEY ARE VALUED AND COM- PLETELY VALUABLE. Psalm 45 is the Psalm that the Holy Spirit wrote across the fabric of my being for three whole days and nights when my Pastor asked me to take on the worship de- partment of our church. We took our little family off to the beach for a mini holiday to talk and pray about what this would mean. I was simply overwhelmed with allthe things I didn’t know about this new role, More
Encouragement
Darlene Zschech | March 13, 2010 | Categories: Blogs | Tags: The Great Generational Transition, Worship Team, Worship Life
TIME GOES BY so very fast. I find it so hard to fathom that my own first born daughter is now a married wom- an, building her future with the man of her dreams... sometimes a week can fly by so quickly it takes you by surprise when you find yourself back at Sunday again!! But with this in mind, we must be continually aware of the urgency and value of preparing not just the next generation, but speaking life and potential into the third and fourth. More
